Speech Instructor

Position Summary:
Teach public speaking courses as assigned by the division chair and in keeping with the guidelines listed below, assist with curriculum development and review, and assist students with advising and enrollment as needed. Assignments may include all delivery methods (traditional, online, and hybrid) if needed.
Essential Job Duties
Some of the duties listed below would be day to day management of the Speech Instructor and will vary depending on the need(s) of the college. Priorities Include:- Devote full time and energy to maximize student learning outcomes
- Continue learning through professional development activities
- Develop teaching methods for all modes of delivery
- Be role models for learning behavior
- Include students in all facets of instruction, guidance, and academic association
- Maintain confidential relatioships with respect to student information
- Respect student thoughts
- Teach from the course materials selected with the division chair
- Adhere to student abilities and competencies listed in the institutional syllabus of courses taught
- Develop and distribute course syllabi based on the institutional syllabi. Copies should be submitted to the division chair and Academic Affairs each semester
- Return evaluated student exams and papers within one week after the assignment due date
- Develop and utilize assessment instruments in conjunction with department, division, and college assessment goals
- Serve as the Lead Speech Instructor, evaluating other Speech Instructors and serving the division chair with responsibilities specific to the discipline
- Maintain grades and class status information
- Submit required reports by deadlines
- Meet classes at the listed times
- Maintain regular office hours, generally, this will include 8-10 hours total per week with times in both mornings and afternoons.
- Actively serve on institutional committees as needed
- Actively support college activities
- Conduct student evaluations in conjunction with other performance measures
- Do faculty evaluations within prescribed guidelines
- Teach 15 hours each semester as a regular load
- Perform departmental and divisional responsibilies
- Must attend graduation ceremonies
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Master’s degree required with a minimum of 18 hours in the speech/communications area
- Experience in teaching, with preference given to those with teaching experience at the college level
- Experience with or knowledge of community college students preferred
- Experience in competitive forensics/debate with proven successes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement responsibilities effectively
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, other professionals, staff, and the public
- The applicants needs to be knowledgeable in Misrosoft 365. Working knowledge of Canvas is a plus
- Ability to operate a computer using a Windows environment.
- Ability to operate a computer within the Crowder College network environment.
- Ability to utilize all relevant computer programs and systems.
- Ability to utilize email.
- Ability to utilize basic Microsoft Office.
- Creative and analytical skills:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to devise or modify methods or processes to solve specific problems.
- Ability to plan, develop and implement all necessary policies and procedures to ensure that the counseling center follows ethical guidelines.
- Language/Communication Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people, including staff, students, other professionals, and the general public, in both written and oral mediums.
- Ability to interact with a broad range of people both on and off campus in a positive manner.

Working Environment
- Generally, works indoors in a standard office environment.
- Normal college working hours but adjustment of hours involving evening and/or weekend work may be required.
- Travel to other instructional sites occasionally required.
