Description
The Museum of Native American History (MONAH) is proud to welcome Choctaw historic preservationist, Jennifer Byram, for the next unique edition of Creative Visions! In Creative Visions: Reawakening Chahta Nan Tvnna: Choctaw Traditional Textiles, we will go over the story of Choctaw textiles and process a Southeastern native fiber plant together. This class comes out of Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Historic Preservation work with our community to reawaken Chahta nan tvnna, Choctaw textiles. For the first time in over 200 years, the Choctaw people are creating textile work based on practices from the 1700’s and earlier, bringing the identity of Chahta nan tvnna to new generations of Choctaw artisans. Creative Visions will be held on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at 5:30 PM. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to learn how textiles were put to use by those before us and create your own with guidance from an expert! Creative Visions is a monthly series that invites Native artists to speak and lead workshops on modern and traditional forms of Native American Art. Creative Visions is open to anyone ages 14 and older. Participants must register for free online through the MONAH website or by calling the museum. Attendance will be taken at the door prior to entering the event space.
